I’ll start posting the latest news somewhat regularly. If there are any exceptionally good/important new articles or information I will be sure to call your attention to it. Please email me or post in the comments if you find something I’ve missed! The Resources page has older articles, including many classics that explain and describe Shoulder Injury Related to Vaccine Administration (SIRVA), so please check there for more information if you are just getting started.
General Articles
A good post aimed at educating vaccine adminstrators about SIRVA:
Let’s Get It Right! How to Avoid Shoulder Injury with Deltoid Intramuscular Injections
A short, decent article, except I’m not sure if it is accurate to say, as this article does, “Rarely is surgery necessary for the treatment of this condition”:
Preventing Shoulder Pain After Vaccine Injection (SIRVA)
Not specifically SIRVA-related, but kind of related in that it will dramatically decrease the number of SIRVA cases in the future. One of these days I hope a universal flu vaccine becomes reality:

I received a Pneumonia Polysaccharides Vaccination on May 13, 2019. Within three hours, I had severe pain throughout shoulder and down to the elbow. I am a 70 year male with no previous shoulder injuries. I returned to physicians office in 3 days and was given prescription for oral steroids. I did have some pain relief and then went to orthopedist who prescribed physical therapy with theraband. Tried the therapy on numerous occasions but severity of pain only increased. Went to a different orthopedist snd received steroid injection. Followed up in ten days with orthopedist, no change, and MRI was ordered. MRI results revealed arthritis, bone spurs, abraded rotator cuff, torn labrum and biceps tendonitis. Since then, bicep tendon detached. I am now scheduled for arthroscopic surgery on Nov. 21st. SIRVA research indicates Pneumonia Polysacharrides is not recognized as a causative agent for SIRVA injuries, only Pneumonia Conjugate, along with flu shots, shingles, etc. I am confused as why one Pneumonia is and one isn’t if the cause indeed is shot location. I need help, please.
Hi Amy,
My name is Jimmy Zgheib and I am a vaccine injury attorney. I just wanted to thank you for the constant updates on your website. I find the information you post very detailed and helpful, particularly the Medical Literature section above.
Thanks for the kind words Jimmy!
I have suffered with upper arm pain after a pneumonia shot now for 1 1/2 years. MRI is negative but the pain is awful! Depending on how I move my arm it practically puts me into tears. I have seen one doctor and she blew it off and said should get better. Other doctor did ultrasound and said probably injected in a tendon. I don’t know what to do.
